Our objective is to develop a creative cultural centre in Sierra Leone where education and cultural understanding meet through the medium of art, bringing the children and the community together and inspiring them to dream.

AWF CHILDREN AND EDUCATION PROJECT
The building will consist of eight spacious areas, in the centre there will be a pavilion where performances (dance, theatre, and music) can take place. Each space has its own function and equipment.

There are eight spaces:
1. HeART for Dance
Heart1
The goal is to make children more aware of the use of dance in daily life and the effect it can have on each individual. Dance is storytelling and cultural education and we hope to transfer this idea to the children. We will offer the children all different sorts of dance, for example: classic, modern, hip-hop, jazz and Zumba fitness. We would also like to create an opportunity for them to share their own dance culture with us.

2. HeART for Theatre
Heart2
The goal is to develop the idea of theatre being the bridge for creative, intellectual and spiritual education of young people as well as social and communal interaction. We will also develop and work with traditional story-telling theatre style of Sierra Leone. Classes will include theatre history, vocal education, stage movement, acrobatics, and workshops of performance techniques.

3. HeART for Arts & Crafts
Heart3
Arts classes aim to improve visual perception of the world through art as well as the perception of creativity. There will also be theatre and dance resources workshops to produce costumes, sets etc. It will include mask making, set and costume design and building, painting, drawing.

4. HeART for Women
Heart4
In this centre we will try to understand the women in Sierra Leone and learn from them. We'll create the opportunity to exchange cultural values and aspects with one another. We would like them to teach us about the way they live so that we can understand where they come from and how we can inspire them.

5. HeART for Music
Heart5
The goal of musical education is to make children understand the importance of music in their lives. In this area we will offer singing and music classes. We hope to exchange and share different cultures and stories with each other through the art of music.

6. HeART for Film & Photography
Heart6
The fascination about filmmaking is that it gives children a chance to record life around them and capture miracles of their lives and share it all over the world. Filmmaking class is a way for children to see the beauty through the lenses. The photography classes will teach how to capture reality and in a second make it a sustainable timeless piece of art.

7. HeART for Culture
Heart7
The purpose of cultural workshops is to teach children about the different cultures that exist in our world. In the classes we also hope to raise awareness of the importance of their own culture and inspire the children to nurture their own values and traditions.

8. HeART for Relaxation
Heart8
This is an area of recreation, entertainment and amusement. We would also like to create the possibility to use computers in this area (IT). In this area the children will get together to talk and play with each other. There's also a possibility to eat together and to play all kinds of (board) games.

In our project we spent a lot of time on the idea of enriching the children's cultural knowledge BUT it's also a process of cultural exchange. Our aim is to get the children and the community to teach us everything about their own culture as well. Through this idea western people can come visit our centre to enrich their cultural and social ideas of Africa. Another aspect of this exchange is that we will be helping locals to build the centre and once it is built we will employ them to run it.

We offer different programs to the children:
1) DANCE ENRICHMENT PROGRAM
Dance/movement Class
We will offer the children a new type of dance (ballet, hip-hop, modern dance, salsa and jazz) every 2/3 weeks. We will introduce all these styles to them so that they can explore and figure out whatever style suits them the best. In this class entertainment, orientation and education come together.

Zumba Fitness Class
Zumba is a new type of movement where dance and fitness meet. The classes are energetic. It's a type of dance where people can really bond with each other through singing, dancing and having fun.

Musical Understanding and Drama Class

In these classes we will concentrate on the function of music. Music and emotion are closely connected and that's the image that we like to transfer to the children in this class.

Choreography and Improvisation Class

In this class different cultures will meet. The children are free to come up with their own movements and choreographies. Dance games are a big part of this class and of their development. This is the place where they can show their creativity and explore their dancing skills.
2) THEATRE PROGRAM
Theatre History Class
We will introduce a basic theatre history to children through stories, illustrations, videos, plays.

Stage Movement Class
In this class children will be taught how to feel the atmosphere on stage, control the space and clarify the movement.

Vocal Workshop
One of the main tools of an actor is the voice. Therefore this workshop will teach the children how to use their voice on stage.

Performance Workshop
This lesson contains improvisation, practising learnt techniques and playing with the concept of performance.

Acrobatics Class
Because people speak a lot of different languages in Sierra Leone, it is useful to make theatre more visual and therefore understandable to a vast majority of audience. Acrobatic class will provide skills required for visual performances.
3) MUSICAL ENRICHMENT PROGRAM
Music History
This class is of high importance in respect of helping children to become world wise, and to introduce to them various styles of music. This time slot is also dedicated to musical exchange when locals teach us about their own culture and traditions of music.

Vocal Workshop
Voice is a very important tool in (self) expression. We will teach children how to reach their potential using it. In this workshop we think it's important for children to interact and communicate through singing together.

Music Teaching
The children will be taught how to play various musical instruments, from flutes to saxophones, from guitar to drums. This class is all about the creation of passion for rhythm and sound.
4) ARTS AND CRAFTS PROGRAM
Art history
We will introduce art history basics to the children by using stories, illustrations, and videos.

Painting class
In this class we will teach the children about the art of painting. It's important that the children realize that they can make paintings of their own and we would like to display these paintings in the centre.

Craft class
There are many different forms of crafts and the children will be informed about all these forms. They will work together to create theatre and dance material resources.

Drawing class
In this class we will teach the children about the art of drawing, for them it's a way to show their creativity and talents.
5) PHOTOGRAPHY- & FILMMAKING PROGRAM
Photography class
This class is about learning the ins and outs of the camera, working towards a project of their own and developing the pictures together.

Filmmaking class
In this class children will learn about the different genres and styles of film and how to create a structure of film of their own.

The last thing we're concentrating on is the funding. Our target budget is €25.000. We have a few funding ideas. The first one is getting a celebrity(s) sponsor involved in our project. The second one is organizing dance programs, we want to create a theatre show that's dedicated to the project and a Zumba-marathon. We would also like to approach foundations, such as The Giving Back Fund. Finally we'd like to promote the work of local artists.
