Film making, photography About The Philippines The Republic of the Philippines, capital Manila, is a small country with a population 94 million people. It is located in south west Asia within the pacific 'ring of fire' exposing the country to frequent earthquakes. Its tropical climate makes it prone to typhoons as it is normally very hot and humid. The intensive forests and the extensive coast line result in the Philippines being considered a "mega-diverse" country. The country is home to many animals and plants many of which are endemic including the Visayan spotted deer, Visayan warty pig and several species of bats. Illegal logging has resulted in serious deforestation the total forest cover has decreased from 70% to about 18.3%.
